What are the most depressing video games of all time?

Hard to say because I honestly haven't played that many depressing games. I would probably go for GTA IV, to be honest. The story was depressing I guess because of what happened to Niko near the end of the game.

I don't really think that video games are meant to be depressing. Haven't found one in my entire life tbh.

Haven't played, but it seems What Remains of Edith Finch will fall into that category or Shadow of Destiny where you investigate your own murder

Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Of Us, The Walking Dead by Telltale, and a few more that I'm probably forgetting. Oh, maybe rdr2 near the end. I can't think of anything else though.

Silent Hill 2, by a long shot. The main focus of the game is telling the story of a depressed character, and everything reflects that. Just listen to the soundtrack and you'll understand.

When it comes to emotional games, that makes you think about reality, then God hand is one of them. I felt emotionally depressed when 'Gen the main character lost his right hand, and was replaced with a power one termed ' The God hand.

I can't offer the most depressing game of all time, because I don't know for others. For me, I'll simply say: FF VII offered me emotional feelings, where Nanaki studied the secrets of seto, in order to defeat em after the elimination of his father by the so-called antagonist.
