  1. Hell I don't even like the AM / PM clock. To me midnight is 0:00 hours, not 12:00, that's noon. I always have to double / triple check when converting times in my work to make sure I'm not giving the wrong numbers. How much simpler it is to just have hours and minutes, nothing else. Instead of having hours, minutes, and then a suffix to tell you how to interpret the hour.
  2. I hate the imperial system, it makes zero fcking sense. 180cm is a clear number, when someone says they are 5'11" that means less than nothing to me, they might well be talking in riddles. Same goes for stones, feet and yards. The only two things I can easily understand is miles because I've driven cars where the speedometer was also displaying miles. The other being pounds which I can roughly understand because weight plates usually have their weight embossed on them in both kgs and pounds. The celsius scale is the simplest thing ever: 0= Water freezes 100 = Water boils over. The Fahrenheit? It's a completely arbitrary scale. No, you order a 32cm Pizza, and an 5dl beer. Nobody orders in mililiters. Not even shots.
  3. I don't think that's ever happened to me. There must be some other contributing factor. Like being too repetitive or boring, or I simply wasn't interested in the story, rather than it just being too hard. If I like a game just find it too hard I'll lower the difficulty level even to story mode if necessary.
  4. i've beaten every game I wanted to. If I quit trying to finish a game it is because I didn't find it enjoyable, not because it was too hard.
  5. Did I say otherwise? Paid streams are not the hype I'm talking about. They are cringe at worst, but not really harmful.
  6. It's not that they pay some streamer to play a game. These people create hype even without being paid. Sometimes negative hype, other times positive. I find it disgusting. That success for games nowadays is not determined by how good the game actually is, but how the youtubers decide to talk about it. If at all.
  7. Let's just say both games broken promises. Squadrons failed right out of the gate by hotas support being all but completely broken, and the gameplay dumbed down to arcade levels. OFC that might appeal to the fortnite era gamer who doesn't want anything complex. Mafia simply failed by being touted as faithful to the original, and it turned out to be a complete redesign with all dialogue rewritten.
  8. Your question was in general, now you are moving the goalposts by referencing this specific situation seen in a tv show. Still if you were on an alien planet they offer little of nutritional value, they can't help you in any meaningful way since they are tiny. But let's assume they had something that was essential to your survival that you cannot obtain in any other way. Even then, WTF would I go straight to domination? That's crazy. Just ask them to give me what I need. If they are intelligent surely they can realize that I can offer them much more as an ally instead of an enemy. Something is seriously wrong with you, if all the reason you need to subjugate people is that you can.
  9. This seems like cruelty for the sake of cruelty to me. I'd gain nothing by dominating them, there is nothing that they can offer me. Their worship and fear is of no benefit to me. So why do it if not for pure evil/cruelty? Of course if these tiny people would invade my home like ants, then I'd be forced to take action. But assuming they are capable of communication I'd first try diplomatic means to get rid of them.
  10. Mafia: Definitive Edition : 4/10 It's an unfaithful remake that is a casuality of developer pride. Hangar 13 just wasn't content with re-creating the original in its perfection, they just had to re-write every line of a spoken text. And sadly the rewritten version can't even compare to the original. It's less classy, more crude, no allegory to it. All the characters seem like brutes, when in the original all seemed like classy businessmen despite being mafiosos. Even the protagonist is unlikeable now. 11. I like the post apocalyptic setting, yet I'm not a fan of any of these franchises in the video. The only interesting games are the NEW IPs, but the tokyo one seems kind of generic, and atomic heart seems like a bioshock ripoff, so I'm not sold on any of these.
  12. I think most of the world still has the capability of understanding satire and humour, and doesn't take offence at everything. The ones who loudly proclaim how offended they are are only a minority who probably never was the target audience anyway. And this goes for both sides of the current political division.
  13. The people who played Duke3D as kids still exist, and probably have disposable income now, so they'd be great target for a new Duke game. But oh no the pretentious twitter dwellers wouldn't like it very much. Too bad developers care more about them than their potential audience. Who cares if a few blue checkmarks take offence? As Richard Dawkins has said, just because you're offended doesn't make you right. I'd be interested in a proper comeback, not one where the character is diluted to pander to the twitterites. Gaming should not be concerned with politics. And frankly nobody should but that's another topic entirely. Funny enough this thread reminded me of Jill of the Jungle, as I've used to play that parallel with Duke Nukem. Now that could be an interesting comeback.
  14. Games should have worlds so interesting that you don't even want to use fast travel most of the time. Travelling from point A to point B should be part of the adventure and not a chore between two parts of the campaign.
  15. The most overhyped releases recently were Mafia Definitive Edition and Star Wars Squadrons. Both of which failed to live up to their promises. I don't think hype is created by the companies, it is created by gamers and "influencers" (F I hate that title) with unrealistic expectations. Who look at a trailer, but don't actually see what's there, instead imagine something far greater. Case in point Black Myth Wukong, where even the developers themselves were taken aback by the hype.
  16. I'm still waiting on a female protagonist, but I doubt they'll do it. Rockstar has a terrible recent track record with "protagonists" anyway as I've hated all of them since GTAIV. I know this is an unpopular opinion but I wish it was more RPG like, with more freedom to do you, instead of walking a predetermined path with a predetermined character I wish the story mode had a character creator, but more customizable than the one in GTA5 online, that's more like a randomizer. By turn it is supposed to be set in Vice City. But I actually wish it was a brand new setting. Something European even, based on Paris, or Brussels, perhaps Berlin, just not England, I hate to drive on the wrong side of the road.
  17. Malazan Book of the Fallen The complexity of the world rivals Lord of the Rings, in my opinion it beats it by far. Much more gritty, but still has humour at times. It's definitely not a children's book, much more mature, sometimes very dark but still thrilling. Maybe the material is too big for any lazy studio to pick it up. About 12000 pages just for the main series, not including the spinoffs.
  18. Funny thing is that the ending was exactly what I expected / had hoped for, but it still hurt. The worst thing for me is seeing someone I care about destroyed, not dying, but dying inside. That's the hardest bit, and that's why I don't want to play it again.
  19. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare - The Peace to the Fallen segment. Beyond: Two Souls - The Homeless chapter. The Last of Us Part II - The ending The first two made me weep. The third didn't but I couldn't think about anything else for two weeks at least. I never replayed any of the games, the first two I never intended to, but I fear TLOU2's ending would traumatize me all over again.
  20. I wish every game where driving a car or similar vehicle is a central piece would support controlling with a steering wheel. I also wish that every game on consoles would support playing with a keyboard+mouse.
  21. You1d think that customization is only important in an RPG, but for example Test Drive unlimited a strictly driving game had avatar customization and it was so much better for it. Or sports games, even in a tennis game, without customization I'd probably have never played virtua tennis 4. The customization means that I can make the character my own, and suddenly because I invested time in making them look the way they do, I'm attached to them emotionally. Customizing my characters is creating a bond between me and them. Even in XCOM2 a strategy game. Random soldier3 falling on the battlefield would be meaninglless, but a character I meticulously customized and set up with a personality is another thing entirely. I agree it doesn't make as much sense in TLOU, but then again wouldn't it be fun if everyone could create their own version of Joel or Ellie? Just as you create your own version of Shepard in Mass Effect. Even if it's only the looks or perhaps the clothing. There is a reason why cosmetics are so popular as microtransactions.People do care about it.
  22. I don't understand this need to see yourself in a character. I'd be taken aback if I suddenly saw myself in a game.
  23. Every game needs fully customizable protagonist / playable character from head to toe. Let everyone play out their preferred fantasy, I don't want to force anything on anyone, and I want the same in return.
  24. No, I think it's the exact opposite. People who can let off steam by playing games even violent ones, are less likely to get aggressive in real life.
  25. I think where Fallout4 really shines are the sidequests and companion quests. The main storyline wasn't that interesting or even well executed, but exploration is pretty rewarding and taking on camps for loot. Shooting mechanics are on a whole new level compared to F3 and NV, this can actually be played as an FPS. For me that's a good thing, you have to decide if you like that or not. And it's the least gamebryo game of bethesda. Meaning the shortcomings of the engine are not as pronounced. The settlement building bit is far too tedious for me, and without mods what you can build is pretty limited. I'd not play this game without mods. Or any bethesda game for that matter.
