  1. I don't think you are in a place to lecture me about game development. "Gold" version is the version that sits on physical media. If there is a physical media. Yes, they can continue working on day0 patches after that as that is often the case nowadays, but nobody disputed that. They said "gold" but they then elaborated which revealed what they are really talking about is a beta. IE the first version that is feature and asset ready and can be played from start to finish That is a BETA milestone not going gold milestone, which should have happened 12 months ago! Oh and PS: THere is nothing draft about a gold version. It should be a finalized game. It's a shame that developers nowadays are leveraging the time between going gold and the actual street date to still fix bugs. It shouldn't be the norm, despite it being common practice.
  2. What's really revealing about the announcement is not that they pushed the date 3 weeks. It's what they said about "going gold". Since they described going beta, which for a project this size should have happened at least a year ago if we were expecting a polished product. This 3 weeks won't make any difference whatsoever.
  3. Comedy gold at this point. And they're lying. "game is ready, can be completed, and has all content in it" doesn't mean going gold, it means reaching BETA stage. If they only done that a few weeks ago, this is going to be an utter disaster.
  4. I think streaming has a wider audience than the games themselves. Sure to a point streaming a game can increase its sales, but the same way playing music also increases sales of said artist. BtW I still don't know what among us is. I'd say that's a negative thing then, if streaming can make bad games successful. And since it's apparently a bad game we'd be better off if it wasn't popularized by streaming. I'd argue that minecraft, fall guys, etc are all terrible low quality low effort games. So them becoming popular actually is a bad thing in my opinion. If we talk about right and wrong, I think making money using someone's creative work and not sharing the revenue is wrong.
  5. So you think musical performances don't help sell music? Nowadays almost all producers have learned that having people play / post their music on youtube actually helps and not hurts them. And I didn'T mean piracy, I meant public performances, eg: showing a movie in your public venue, is exactly the same thing as showing a game in a stream. Many people would argue differently. There are more people now who just watch let's plays who will never actually play the games themselves. I'd draw a line between content creators and streamers. A streamer adds nothing of their own, they literally just play a game in public. I'm surprised those are a success at all. The taste of people today is just beyond my reasoning. Who said anything about discouraging? It's just a share of revenue. Streamers make big bucks using someone else's product. Some sort of revenue sharing would be fair in my opinion. Having to pay 10c to the devs over every dollar you make by streaming a game wouldn't exactly discourage anyone from streaming.
  6. When you think aboout it's not that stupid. You want to play a movie in public -> you have to pay royalties you want to play someone's music in public ->you have to pay royalties You want to use someone's dance moves -> you have to pay royalties So why shouldn't you pay royalties if you are going to play games in public with the sole purpose of making money off of it?
  7. Test Drive Unlimited The best racing game ever created. I was lucky enough to be a beta tester for this game. And it is everything I wanted from a racing game. It is just a feelgood awesome no-nonsense experience, that oozes the love of driving and great rides, from the past to present. It even offers the opportunity for us less fortunate ones to get into the lifestyle of weath, buying big houses villas and garages around hawaii, and driving to dealerships to buy new cars. it's not for NFS fans with the attention spans of 5 minutes. If you look at an NFS game the average race length is less than 5 minutes. In TDU, there are numerous 50+ mile road races. With one 150 mile round trip race around oahu. And of course what truly makes it great is the level of immersion, that never stops, you arrive in hawaii on a plane choose your avatar that you can later customize with various outfits that all can be bought with in game credits at various in game stores, this being a game before the time of microtransactions. It's all just a big dream from beginning to end. What makes me truly happy is that some of the original creators are now working on bringing TDU back with a third game.
  8. Proably lost at least 5 minutes to whackyourboss, that's extremely good for a browser game.
  9. Probably Ghost Recon Breakpoint. The original relase was bad, but they fixed the issues with a patch early this year. I've played 77 hours so far. That's probably the most I spent with any game this year, I'm currently playing through the season pass content, but it's not worth getting, FYI, the base game offers more than enough content, the rest is just an afterthought. As for games released this year, the only one I'd wholeheartedly recommend is Last of Us 2.
  10. Well, historical events are not the same as current day politics that are still being debated. I don't have a problem with political themes in games, I Have a problem with using games as a platform for political activism that is in no way related to the game's plot.
  11. Again what gives you the idea that I wanted to suppress their rights by force? And it is my right as a customer to express my distaste at it. Wouldn't that also fall in free speech? I perceive it as an invasion of my personal space, for petty, political reasons, that affect maybe 1% of the world's population. Americans often seem to forget that they are not the world, I'm not from the US, and I have no stake in their petty political bickering, and even if I had the time and place for it is not in entertainment media, as in videogames. Believe me that's what I did immediately. And if they want to include politics in their games, they can forget me ever supporting a political campaign with my money. It is an invasion, because I play games in my personal space, and them injecting politics into games is at the least unexpected and unwelcome. What I mean is that they have no more moral right to lecture anyone on politics, they are not arbiters of ultimate truths and what is right and wrong. And as such using the platform they have access to for personal politics is morally questionable. And again: This is not the US, games are not only sold in Murica. They are equal in every part of the world. So they absolutely have no moral right to drag me into this fight, where both sides are questionable.
  12. No, I'm not trying to limit anyone's free speech. Where did you get that idea? Is that projection? From your tone it seems to me you would limit the free speech of DT supporters wouldn't you, if you had the power? My issue that is that direct references to real world politics in a fictional universe doesn't make any sense. It's immersion breaking and it's the subversion of the platform for personal and selfish reasons. Eg: Instead of making the best game possible, they are trying to use the reach of videogames to send messages. Mostly for no other reason but virtue signalling their own perceived awesomeness into the ether. Or do you think putting references or in some cases open political messages in games actually helps any cause? I never suggested it should be banned, I'm just complaining as a regular customer of games. If they want to do it, they can go right ahead, I'll just ignore games from any developer who does it. I talk about all games, not any specific one. But the one that prompted me to open this topic was NFS: Payback.
  13. Open world games are uninteresting because they build a story and then make a world for that story. Instead they should build a living breathing world where every NPC has a purpose and their own backstory and their relationship system with other NPCs. And make scenery that is intruiging to explore in of itself, with interesting secrets. Meaning every location should have unique loot, and no gear level, so an armor you find on level1 should still be usable 10 hours later in the game. Armor is not magical it makes no sense that there is magnitudes of difference between different sets in efficiency. And when you built a believable and interesting open world. Only then you should start on a main storyline that fits in this world. Not the other way around.

    Last Game Played

NFS: Payback and NFS: Heat Same garbage, different skin.
  15. Kickstart II / Commodore 64 It's only fair to select a game first from the first platform I played games on. Kickstart II is a side scrolling stunt bike race game, with split screen multiplayer. It also has a track builder.

    Racing Wheels

It depends on what type of games are you playing. Nowadays anything but simulators are a joke on racing wheels. It's a real shame.Mainstream titles like NFS are not really playable with a racing wheel. Guess the least of a simulation on PC that's still worth getting a wheel for is Project Cars.
  17. Nah companies don't get political because of lobbying, except maybe for government contractors. They do it to win sympathy points so they bend wherever the wind blows. Often it's not even top down, it it's lower level employees trying to be activists. And subverting the huge platform that is gaming to promote their agenda. So they can congratulate themselves on twitter on how swell guys they are by condemning bad things, or whatever. But we already know bad is bad, and some 20 something intern fresh out of social studies class telling me that bad thing is bad just feels pretentious.
  18. Glad you are enjoying it. The different parts are all unique, and focused on different events and characters. That doesn't mean characters are forgotten they all play integral roles in later parts. The first book is mostly just character building with not that much happening plot wise. The main plot only really thickens in the latter parts. There were one or two books that were so detached from the rest that I was struggling with them (taking place in an entirely different era), but the overall experience is worth it to get through those.
  19. Close? What would be the benefit of that? But some restructuring might happen, perhaps shift of focus even.
  20. I only remember Cool Spot, and Guldkorn Express. Both were pretty decent games at their time. But those are brand games. I never knew any fast food place had games. I also found a promotional Nestlé cereal box which had Ford Racing game in it. Never even tried it. I have the same attitude to bundled games as I have with free games on EGS and Steam and Origin. If I wanted to play them I'd have purchased them already. It's just worthless clutter to me.
  21. What are you talking about? 33C is 91.4F and 34C is 93.2F So what 4 numbers? Fahrenheit didn't make sense even at it's inception. It's based on a false reading of human temperature, and the freezing point of an ammonium chloride solution. Which is just completely random. It's not a frame of reference to any normal human being. And 0 is not an exact number, but 32 is? Whaat?
  22. Why? I recently encountered a game where the main menu boldly proclaimed the creators political affiliations. I think that is way out of line. Games are escapism, a place to let off steam. Bringing day to day politics into games is an affront, and I take it as an invasion of my personal space. They don't have the qualification, nor the moral right to lecture their customers on politics. I don't think game developers should concern themselves with actual politics even outside their games. Except as private citizens when not representing their company. And actually this rule should be heeded by all companies even outside of gaming. .
