I haven't played Splatoon 2 myself no but I have seen others playing it and it sure does look a lot of fun. I am wondering if maybe there is a demo that I could try before I buy the game, usually they do demos on the Nintendo Shop for games such as this. I may try the demo and see what I think and possibly buy it at a later date. I can imagine it becoming addictive though from what many have told me.

What are your favourite and not so favourite videogame mascots?
Shortie replied to Yaramaki's topic in Gaming Forum
Being a gamer since I was really little, I have come across a lot of mascots in the gaming world some of which I am not a huge fan of maybe because they were the bad guy in the franchise and others that I absolutely loved. Taking away the usual ones like Sonic, Mario, Tails, Luigi I would have to say that Crash Bandicoot is probably my favorite video game mascot. I absolutely loved Crash Bandicoot when I was growing up and even now, he has always been a favorite of mine, You know, with Mario being such a popular game on Nintendo especially when I was growing up you would think that he would be the outright winner for the Nintendo mascot but since Pokemon became more and more popular, Pikachu seems to have taken that top mascot spot for Nintendo. -
Seizure/visual problems with gunfire in shooters
Shortie replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
I can't say myself I have had an issue with the gun fire visuals in a game myself but I can fully see why some people would have this issue and it's a shame that developers do not give an option for these kinds of visuals to be turned off so that people who are affected and may end up having seizures can still have the option to play the game and not miss out because it may affect them by playing. I can understand developers wanting the game to be as realistic as possible and that is understandable but taking into consideration the possibility of their player base possibly having seizures would be a wise decision on their part. -
For a Bully sequel to work, what does it need to do?
Shortie replied to Kane99's topic in Gaming Forum
I remember when Bully was released, it was a game that was so popular but I myself couldn't fully get into the game if I am honest. I have teens that actually played the first game and loved it and all too often keep asking me if I have heard anything about a Bully 2 with their being rumors around the internet regarding it. I notice that Rockstar don't like to rush their games at all and that is proven with games like GTA and then time between new releases of their GTA games much like the time difference between 5 & 6 at the moment. I would imagine if there is a Bully 2 in the works, they will be working on that at their own pace ensuring that the game is as they intend it to be when they do decide to release it. In terms of what I feel they need to do from what I know from the first game, is don't make too many changes in terms of the mini games or even the way the game is worked around a school timetable. I feel with the first game they got all this right and not many changes need to be made to that at all. Maybe bring in newer mini games for the lessons so that we don't have the same old from the first game. -
I have found that with the amount of games I play with an autosave feature usually it will replace the last autosave that you have every so often when you are playing the game but in some cases you can also make a save yourself as well which will not override when the game autosaves. It varies with each game though I noticed and in some cases, when the game autosaves it will create a new save every time. This doesn't happen with all games but the odd few may have it enabled to do that.

What makes devs remove functionality from subsequent games in series?
Shortie replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
Whenever developers removed a feature in a game it's usually I find to bring it back at a later date in a new game in the series. Usually it's the most popular features that end up being removed from the game that they know their user base are going to miss and then when they leave it long enough and bring it back to a new game in the series, consumers are excited to see it back and will jump on the game even paying full price for it. It's the developers way of milking more money out their customers which is a shame but if people bite then they will keep on doing it. -
I would have to say my favorite especially at the moment is Epic Games. They do so much for their user base and customers even to the point where they offer free games, some of which are absolutely amazing and a steal if you manage to grab them when they roll out before they leave for another free one. My worst I would have to say is probably EA. I hate how with EA everything is money, money in a sense especially with their games not to mention the fact the customer service is never always the greatest when you have an issue with their services or it hasn't been in the past for me when I have needed to contact them.

Retro videogame magazines hard to find these days?
Shortie replied to Kane99's topic in Gaming Forum
That awful feeling you get when you realize that the magazines you used to collect all those years ago would have been perfect to keep for future as part of a collection and now that you would like to be able to do so it may cost you way too much to even consider. I am betting a lot of the magazines that most of us wished we had kept would be for sale on places like eBay. With them being so rare now though I can only imagine the price people would be asking for them if they are on there for sale. -
What are the most guilt-inducing moments in games?
Shortie replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
For me the most guilt inducing moment in a game that I always remember and I am betting so many others remember because it is one of those scenes that just sticks in your head is in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on the airport scene where you have to shoot and kill people in the airport during a scene in the story. I always remember playing that scene and thinking how messed up it was that we had to do that in the game and remember how guilty I felt for doing it even though it was part of the story and was in a game. -
Sometimes I really do dislike living in the UK when it comes to things like the game awards as it is on so late for me so unfortunately I missed it as I had to head to bed for an early start this morning. I will be catching up on anything that was announced today though. I am honestly not surprised that Game of the Year was Elden Ring. That game was popular right off the release and even now I still see people playing the game and really enjoying it.

Feds might investigate Microsoft takeover of Activision
Shortie replied to Kane99's topic in Gaming News
I honestly do not see Microsoft taking over Activision/Blizzard with the trust that they will not make games exclusive and other platforms lose out. Phil Spencer especially is all for making gaming for everyone and enabling everyone to play games on their console of choice. This would go against what he stands for within the company both for Xbox and Microsoft and would land him with a lot of trust issues. Seems weird that they would wait until the deal has gone through and now decide to investigate. -
UK Universities Study Confirms What We Already Knew About Loot Boxes.
Shortie replied to Shagger's topic in Gaming News
I'm actually quite surprised it took them this long to realize that it's an issue to be honest in terms of financial and emotional harm to children. Overwatch was one of the worst for loot boxes I remember and I have teens myself that like to play Overwatch. Luckily I am the one who is in charge of what they spend on their games so I was able to curb them when it came to buying loot boxes on the game but it really was gambling when you think about it due to the fact you were paying for something not knowing what you were going to receive. It makes sense now though why they removed them in Overwatch 2 and found other ways for you to get in game items, at least now you know what you are getting and what you are paying for and it's less than a gamble. -
I agree that when you look at this from our point of view where we were not the ones receiving the turkey fryer it does seem funny but I can only imagine how frustrated the recipient was when they were expecting something else and not what they received lol. I guess these kind of mistakes do happen from time to time and as long as the company is able to fix the issue without too much delay it's all good in the end.

Animal Crossing New Horizons springs to mind when you say a game you can not die in. In Animal Crossing you can't really die. You can go missing on an island and need help getting back or you can get stung my bee's, stung by a scorpion or bitten by a spider but you then get taken home to recover and get any medicine needed to recover from that but you do not die in the game at all.

I can't say that I have really had a game this year that I feel was a total flop for me but to be honest I have pretty much stuck with games such as Apex Legends, Destiny 2 and Fortnite, all of which have updates quite frequently that keep the game fresh and fun to play. This has lead me to buy less games throughout the year and I can't say there has been any bad updates for each game I have played frequently this year either.
-
This sounds awesome and I really do hope that it becomes an actual thing and not just something they talk about, work on and then it flops. I have always said time and time again that with animals, much like humans they can suffer with depression and anxiety and something like gaming can always help with that much like it can with us humans. I think it would be cool to see a tablet specifically made for dogs that was dog proof with games that they can play. Super excited to see where this goes.

Microsoft to raise prices of future Xbox Series X/S games to $70
Shortie replied to Kane99's topic in Gaming News
This is not a huge surprise for me to be honest as I kind of expected that Microsoft would jump on the price increase as other companies have done. I guess the one thing will Microsoft is they have the Game Pass option in which some new games will come on there to play day 1 in most cases for a subscription fee each month and again that is their way of making gaming inclusive for everyone so it's a choose for the gamer whether they want to pay the hefty $70 or whether they would rather go the subscription route. -
Microsoft has 10 year commitment to bring COD to Nintendo consoles
Shortie replied to Kane99's topic in Gaming News
This is amazing to see! I love that Phil Spencer really does want gaming to be accessible and for everyone and with all the ideas he has much like this one again he is going to ensure that everyone no matter what platform will be able to play a game and not be left behind. Gaming really is about being included no matter what platform you play on and with cross play and cross platform now being a thing as well, you no longer have to have access to all consoles to be able to play with friends or family on another. Phil Spencer is amazing and I honestly can not wait to see what else he has in store for the gaming community. -
This is perfectly normal when you get to being an adult and you have other things that need more attention than maybe buying a bundle for a PS5 console. I myself have been in the same boat with the Xbox Series X where they have been in stock but I have sat back and thought about it and whether I would justify the purchase and every time my adult self would kick in and say no it can wait. There will always be more times for you to jump on the purchase when you are able to and maybe even at some point a bundle that would suit you. You definitely did the right thing not jumping the gun.

When someone mentions to me about a broken game on release the first game that comes to mind is Cyberpunk 2077. I remember there was so much hype for this game when it was announced at E3 and everyone was looking forward to it's release and when it released it was a broken mess. I myself didn't purchase the game on release but from what I hear from people who did, they were not happy at all and it really was a broken mess from the start. I am not sure if they ever fixed the issues that plagued the release but I believe by the time they did, it was a little too late for some.

Do you have real life friends, you've met while gaming?
Shortie replied to aerodynamik's topic in Gaming Forum
I do still have friends that I met when gaming online back in 2008 - 2009 but I wouldn't say that I know them in person but more so still over the internet and over gaming. I met a group of people when playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2 a while back and some of them I do still speak with on occasion but due to their lives they don't tend to game as much anymore which is a shame. Now I tend to spend more time just playing games with my other half and my family so don't tend to meet many people now online gaming like I used to. -
It sure seems to be a fad that fell off quick, makes you wonder if it was because Nintendo didn't really do as much as they could have done using amiibos and so they just slowly let them phase out as like I say, even though I still see them for sale, I barely see anyone mention them anymore like I used to. Wonder if they would ever consider trying to bring them back again at some point? I liked the idea behind them.

I haven't taken a good look in the eshop for a while now on the Nintendo Switch but did they ever enforce this? I remember the last time I took a good look in the eshop I was seeing games for cheaper than $1.99 so this can't have been implemented yet when I looked. I can understand why they would want to do this though as many good developers could lose out on possible sales if people who go really cheap for games that didn't have half the work put in as some do would just take over and they would get lost in the crowd over cheaper prices. It's a good idea on Nintendo's part for sure!

I would definitely jump on the OLED if you are wanting to grab a Switch now. I don't see Nintendo myself releasing anything anymore upgraded any time soon and with there not being any announcements or even rumors at the moment of anything further from Nintendo, you could be waiting a long time for anything. If you are serious about jumping on the Nintendo Switch now go for the OLED.

I have quite a few games downloaded to my Nintendo Switch at the moment. When I first got my Switch I really did think I would have issues building up a good list of games that I would have on my Nintendo Switch but finding deals for games as helped me build up my list. So far at the moment I have these games on my Nintendo Switch Animal Crossing New Horizons Super Mario Tennis Aces Just Dance 2023 Nintendo Switch Sports Super Smash Bros Pokemon Unite Overwatch 2 Among Us Apex Legends That is just to name a few that I can remember right now but I know I have more as well.
