Could playing VR games boost lucid dreaming?

Recommended Posts

Lucid dreaming is in the same boat as hypnosis for me: pure bullshit. I was brought up on stage by a "hypnotist" for a demonstration. People asked why I was the only one not responding to her. She told scrambled and said that sometimes that happens. I told the crowd that I wasn't hypnotized. That's when everyone could tell that the rest weren't either and started leaving her little "show".

Lucid dreams sometimes feels like creating delusion in our own mind. Kind of like masturbation. Imagine some porn actress is there with you flying in astral plan having secks with you. No thanks. That's a lot of delusion and it's like making you dumb each time you try it. As much as I like spirituality, lucid dreaming is mental masturbation. I doubt game could give that feeling in VR. I strongly doubt it.

I can see people lucid dreaming a lot more because of VR. I've had lucid dreams a lot in my life, but haven't mastered how to control them. I know I'm doing things in the dreams, because it feels more real, but I often lose control of it. I could see VR helping that alot.

Idk about hypnosis, but I know lucid dreaming is real, it's just very hard to control your own dreams. Usually you'd be dreaming or a deep sleep, so it's tough to take control while asleep. But it can be done. I've had very lucid dreams, but could never master controlling them 100%.

With hypnosis, I think you need to be accepting of it, otherwise it doesn't work. It's just a trick of the brain to change habits. It's not like the stuff you see on TV. It's more like a therapy session. My guess on how it works, is that it puts the idea of change in your mind, so you strive for it. Something like that.

This one was a demonstration at the county fair.  I'd never done anything like it before so I was open minded about it. When the display started, that was when I realized that it was bullshit. And she was a well regarded "hypnotist" here in my state.

It's worth experimenting with if it can combat PTSD.

I would be worried that it would enhance that events that caused PTSD. For example if it brought up my memories from when I was in the Marines, I would probably have a complete mental breakdown.

You know what, I think you may be right about that. I think realizing you are just in a dream is empowering, but what if people still feel helpless in the dream? Then it could aggravate it. But if people can get used to lucid dreaming on a regular basis, then when that bad dream comes up they might be just a tad bit stronger, then next time a tad bit more stronger. That would take a lot of VR playing though and probably years of it for it to have any real life affect outside the dreamworld.

I have never used a VR and I have never experienced lucid dreaming. In fact, I even don't know what exactly is Lucid dreaming?

It's when you are dreaming and some light goes on in your head making you aware that you are dreaming. When that happens you can usually do things you want like flying or floating, be invincible etc. It's happened to me a number of times but never lasts long. I always become too aware I'm dreaming and wake up.

So, lucid dream means you know you are dreaming and you can give instructions to your mind, right?
