  1. Lift is Strange is one of those games that is undeniably brilliant, but you have to know what you're in for. It's not actually what I would a "game", I would describe it as an interactive narrative. There're some aspects of exploration and problem solving, but it's mostly guiding the character through a scripted story with choices to make that affect where the story goes. I won't spoil anything, but it's a superb story. I definitely prefer the first LIS over the prequel BTS for reasons that I can't really explain without spoiling them, but it's up to you in the end how you feel. If you bought the games on disk, the'll be complete, so don't worry.

    DualShock 5

    Comparing to the DS4, the top is rounded rather than straight and that may make the triggers and shoulder buttons easier to use. The side grips also look a little narrower, but a little longer and that may make it easier for smaller hands to grip and for larger hands to find a comfortable grip point. There're just two things I hate the DS4. One, the USB micro connection, now it's a USB-C on the DS5, good. Second is the contours on the face of the controller between the "Share" button to the D-Pad and the "options" button to the face buttons, they make the "Share" and "Options" buttons hard to press and I'm glad to see what looks like a flat face this time. I agree with @The Blackangeland @ARx182 that there was certainly little wrong with the DS4, but there's always room for improvement and I think these subtle changes as well as the expected new tech in the controller will make this even better.
  3. Official statement from CD Project Red: To polish and improve the game so it's 100% complete is the right reason to delay any game, but this is starting to get a bit ridiculous. This is why games shouldn't announce release dates so early. Any number of things can happen between those announments and said release dates. There has to be a point where gamers need to stop forgiving developers/publishers for these delays and start asking them if they knew it wouldn't be ready in time, why did you make that announcement and start taking pre-orders a so may long ago? For me, that time is now.
  4. Found the game on Steam. What's immediately very weird is that is a part of series of "Endless Fable" games (I think there's 4 of them at this point, this being number 3), but it appears this Switch listing ditches the sequel tag completely. Maybe they don't intend to bring the other games to the Switch. It doesn't look like anything special, just point and click adventure/horror game with puzzles. It's got mixed reviews on Steam, so that's a good sign and is lower rated than the other Endless Fable titles. The Scottish setting does grant an extra point for me, but from I can about the story it could have been set pretty much anywhere and doesn't really connect to the setting in a very meaningful way. Overall, I'm not really interested in it, but that shouldn't put you off if you like the look of it. I'll add the trailer in here in just in case you wanna take a look.
  5. I hate to be pedantic, but this isn't gaming related and should be moved to general discussion @DC.
  6. It is a fascinating picture, and thanks again for sharing it. I'm not sure how that would happen, but I suspect it's more to do with weather patterns rather than volcanic activity. A humid, high pressure weather front being forced up the mountain for that moisture heavy air to cool at high altitude then sink back down?
  7. Sorry about the clumsy "EDIT" on that post @The Blackangel, I had to try to get that in before the editing window closed, so I ended up rushing a bit.
  8. I'm very sorry to hear that. That really does sound amazing and it's such a shame you're unable to do that now. All can offer is that you did get to enjoy these things while you could. On to Yellowstone though. This Volcano isn't normal in that it has not formed as a result of molten rock being diverted from a tectonic boundary, It has formed above what geologist calls a "Hot Spot" where a convection current in the earths mantle has broken through the surface. Iceland and the Hawaiian Islands were formed by the same phenomena. In geological terms, it's actually quite a young formation that's only existed for around 2.1 million years. In that time, it has had three caldera forming eruptions, making an average gap of around 600,000 years between them. Considering that the last eruption was around 640,000 yeas ago, that's why scientist keep a close eye on this. Despite that, the odds of an eruption in our lifetime is very slim because they're giving several tens of thousands of years for estimates. Using the word "overdue" isn't really accurate. It could be hundreds of thousands of years until it blows and it would still make sense. All that's sure is that will blow... someday. EDIT: Started typing before your edit. I have heard of MT Pele. It's not in Hawaii, (Unless there is another Mt Pele I don't know about) Erupted on the ise of Martinique in 1902 in a even eerily similar to MT St Helens. The nearby town of 40,000 inhabitants was all but wiped out. One of only 2-3 survivors was a prisoner protected from the debris filled pyroclastic avalanche by his underground cell, but he wasn't shielded from the heat of the said pyroclastic surge and was badly burned. Apparently, after the eruption he was toured in a freak show as "The Man Who Escaped Hell." And yeah, Mt Fuji is a remarkable natural beauty.
  9. Yellowstone is another bucket list for me. A volcanic crater big enough build Tokyo inside and still have room to spare. Within that though, is one of the most beautiful natural habitats on earth, so there're several reasons to visit that place. But God's, please do me a favour and not give us a VEI8 event until after I'm dead if you don't mind? Thank you. The last VEI8 event was at Lake Toba in modern day Indonesia around 70,000 years ago and that did almost wipe us out, so as unlikely as it is in our lifetime, it's something to fear. Sadly, when it comes to Mt St Helens, you're not completely correct. You have to fill out a pile of liability forms almost as tall as the mountain itself to get any ware near the crater because the volcano is still active with a risk of steam eruptions and the ground is very unstable. It's young earth, left from the eruptions in the 80's. It's not gonna blow it's top like it did in 1980 for a long time, talking hundreds of years, but it's still a dangerous trip.
  10. The Ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum. I've been fascinated by Geology and Volcanology since I was a kid and find the Romans to be an interesting lot, so the chance to explore both passions and see where the most famous volcanic event in human history happened would be a dream come true. Hopefully I'd be allowed to climb Mt Vesuvius and see the other volcanic site in the area as well.
  11. Whilst I fear @Crazycrabmay be right and Sony will use pricing to really dangle the digital version in everyone's face, I will still buy the version with a disc tray. Until digital goods are blessed with the same consumer rights as physical media, I will not abandon discs.

    Hulu

    I'm not living in America, so forgive me if this sounds a little ignorant as Hulu may be more popular than I think, but if Nintendo was going to have one premium steaming service available on the Switch, why wouldn't it be Netflix or Amazon? I'm sorry, but I find it hard to believe that Hulu is the one you really want to make a deal with?
  13. They released the PS4 and XB1 at the same time of year back in 2013 and I didn't see nor hear any stories like that. Mostly it was idiot fanboys buying consoles just to smash them outside the store because they wanted attention.
  14. I'm not surprised to see both Sony and Microsoft being so hesitant to reveal the cost of their respective consoles because pricing a games console is not simple. Obviously, they both want the other to show their hand first to avoid having to announce an unappealing price, but there's more to it than that. Back in the early 90's there was a console that tried to take on the juggernauts that were Sega and Nintendo, the 3DO. The company and the console was the brainchild of Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins. It was a phenomenally powerful games console for its time, way more capable than it's 16Bit rivals, but it failed mostly because of one problem. Ridiculously expensive. There was a good reason for that aside its powerful components. Instead of making the consoles themselves, 3D0 had other established electronics companies manufacture the consoles to agreed specifications and sell them, whilst 3D0 would sell the games. Because of that, these manufacturers had to mark the price up as there was no other way to make money on them other than that initial sale of the console. It's just like if Philips sold you a CD player, they have to make their cut on that sale as somebody else was selling the CD's. You could say the 3DO was more like a what we think of as a modern gaming PC because you buy the device from a 3rd party s a utility where the manufactures of the components need that mark up to make money of these things, then you buy the games from somebody else. That combined with the benefits of mass production is why consoles are so much cheaper than PC's. Back to the point. You can surely see now where first party consoles, especially modern consoles with subscription services and digital goods sales, have an advantage. They make money buy you buying games and services for the system, so can even afford to sell at a loss and still make the manufacturer money. What matters to them is that they get it into your home. Of course, they don't want to make it too cheap either, breaking even or making a small profit on the hardware sale would be nice as well, so it's not an easy thing to balance. I don't ever whoever it is that has to make that call for the Series X or the PS5, just imagine getting that wrong.
  15. Somebody on the Internet has very cleverly used the PS5 disk tray as a kind of datum to compare to other PS consoles, and what this indicates is that the PS 5 is going to be huge, much larger than other PS consoles.
  16. First of, here is the full event itself in case you haven't seen it. Now there's allot to get through, so with no a due, let's begin Things actually start badly with one of the most pointless announcements ever. Grand Theft Auto V will be a launch title for the PS5 and that's FUCKING STUPID!!! That's three generations of console that this game will be released on now. I don't care that PS5 owners will get GTA Online for free when the console launches, nobody buys a next gen console to play a game they were playing two console generations ago. Nobody wanted this and even less of us need it.This is just another attempt by Take Two and Rockstar to create a false tally of this game's sales numbers, like they've been doing for years. Fuck off with this ridiculous nonsense. Gladdy, we quickly move onto something we did want, a sequel to Insomnic's brilliant Spiderman game. Spiderman Miles Morales. It's fair to expect great things from this and I'm sure it won't disappoint and this will sell consoles. Next, and it has been a while for this franchise, Gran Turismo 7. As you would expect, it's epically impressive with its graphics and a real showcase for the PS5 and what it can do. Fans will be glad to see this game back. Another big exclusive PlayStation IP with Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. This will be a fun romp as R and C always is, but this one looks great and I get the feeling this one may be more complex and challenging that the previous game. What do you think? Enough now of stuff we've seen before, time for something new. Project Athia is a new and exclusive IP published by Square Enix for the PS5 and this looks very promising to me. Difficult to tell at this point what this game is really all about, but I like what I see. One to watch. Next, Stray. As far as I can tell, you play as a stray cat in a world populated buy robots instead of humans. Yeah, a bit trippy this one. And the trippy continues with Returnal. Basically a lost astronaut having a groundhog day. Not sure how I feel about this one, I'll need to see more gameplay before I can make my mind up. Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a game that does not need to exist. This needlepointed little turd didn't need his own game when we already have Little Bid Planet. I suppose the line up needed a kid friendly couch co-op game, I get that, but this is not for me. A new Knack would have been better. Ever wanted to play Rocket League, but instead of trying to score goals, it's a Demolition Derby where you smash your opponents up and try to run them over? Exactly! I didn't know I need this in my life either! I think I'm gonna like Destruction Allstars. Kena: Bridge of Spirits looks right up my ally. I think I need to see more gameplay, but I like what I see. I love its art style and atmosphere. It'll need a strong story and solid gameplay to come together, but I hope it can deliver the goods. This next one I'm really struggling to know what to say. I'm saying Goodbye Volcano High will be a rubbish game, but I do think this is a rubbish trailer. I can't tell much of anything about it other that it's a world of sentient dinosaur people and it's set in a high school. Honestly, not hyped. This next one is more exiting, if you're not me. Oddworld Soulstorm. That means two things, we are getting a new Oddworld game and it has a silly name. Never really been a big fan of Oddworld, but I get why others would be hyped. Ghostwire Tokyo. Now THIS looks fucking cool. Next is Jett the Far Shore. Now I admit, this trailer defeats me, I have no idea whats going on. So, all I can suggest is watch it and make your own mind up. Godfall was revealed at another digital Playstation event several months ago. Now, we have actual gameplay to feast our eyes on. Getting a bit of a Warframe crossed with Dark Souls kind of vibe. Looks promising, until you realize it's published by Gearbox. So yeah, take it with bucket of salt. Solar Ash is a pretty game. A unique vibrant, colourful style and interesting character models. Don't know if this will be fun to play though, time will tell. Hitman III. Well, not much more to say, it is what it is. I don't see this one letting the fans down and it looks superb. The next trailer is the new 2K NBA game, so nobody cares. Ketamine, Crystal Meth, Cocaine, Alcohol, Cannabis, Heroine and Speed. Those are just some of the drugs they were on when they came up with Bugsnax. It's confirmed, Demon's Souls Remastered. Some of you may know that I have burning HATRED for this game, but I know that it has its fans who'll be, well, I was about to be pleased but the fanbase of this game is made up of arrogant, miserable pricks who are incapable of love, so who knows. Still, good for them, but I'll be avoiding this one. Strangely, another groundhog day like thing going on here with Deathloop, but the feels very different to Returnal. Very suave, mysterious, brooding style. This kind of reminds m of Dishonoured, and I think it might even be the same studio, so that's a promising sign. Resident Evil VIII: Village. Enough said. This teaser for Pragmata leaves more questions than answers. I suppose that is the point, though. Anyway, an interesting concept, but I'll wait for more info. The game won't be out until 2022, so there's time to learn more. Now the big one, at least for me. At last, they have confirmed the sequel to one of my favourite games, Horizon: Zero Dawn. Sorry if I fanboy out a little here, but Horizon Forbidden West is the reason to own a PS5. The trailer is great too. Looks like Sylens is coming back as a villain, it seems Aloy is going to interact with the environment in a more dynamic way, especially underwater, that pissed of looking giant metal turtle, this is awesome! For this game, I will be buying a PS5. Then finally, the moment we were all waiting for, the reveal of the console itself. The best looking video game console in my as always humble opinion was the original mark one Sega Megarive/Genesis, the critical word in that sentence being "was". It's so futuristic and sleek, it wouldn't out of place spraying water in a courtyard outside of a fancy cooperate headquarters. The two-tone colour, the asymmetry, it's a stunning looking thing. Sorry XBox, but I don't think there's even a contest here. When it comes to hardware atheistics, Sony has you beat. I can't say I'm surprised to see a version of the console that's digital only, but I am relieved there's a version with a disk tray as well. But that's just my opinion, what do you guys think? And what did you think of the presentation overall? I think this was a great showing from Sony and PlayStation. Lots of great games shown and a long awaited console reveal that did not disappoint. EDIT: You know what, I think it might look even better lying flat;
  17. Learn to read....... in hell.
  18. Have you tried an emulator? DosBox is a good DOS emulator that even GOG.com use to run DOS games they sell on their store, maybe you could give that a try?
  19. I think Golden Axe has potential, at least from the version of SEGA that has a clue, and not the SEGA that made this unholy abomination;
  20. It was an Atari. Fairly certain it was the 2600 Junior, but it could have been the 7800. I remember the housers in our area were going through renovations, so we were temporally re-located into a kind of caravan or portable home until the work was complete. I remember played a multi game cartridge with 30 games on it including Combat, Golf a number of sports games and a load of others. Even by the standard of the late 80's/early 90's this was pretty old school, but me and my brothers loved it nonetheless. I have no idea where that machine is now, it's probably long gone, but the memories remain. The next console I remember playing was the SNES, so I kind of skipped the 8-bit era.
  21. Pre-ordering makes sense if you want to secure a physical copy of a came of special edition that you know will be in high demand and limited in availability and/or of your salary payments or availability of funds dictates that pre-ordering at a certain time is better in consideration of controlling your finances (God, I sound like such a grown up dork!). Other than that, pre-odering is something that should be avoided. Companies want you to do it so they can have your money before they're actually due it to please their investors. Still, if you want the bells and whistles from a pro-order, but begrudge that developer/publisher the satisfaction, here's a tip. Pre-order just a few minutes before the game is released. That company doesn't get to boast about that pre-sale to it's never rich enough board and investors and you get the perks. Everyone wins.
