  1. What's the most money you spend on one video game? Most wanted videogame and/or console? Favourite item in your video game collection?
  2. *sigh takes deep breath and shakes head in disbelief and bashes hand on the table* Man why do i keep bothering everithing i suggest just gets slammed anyway, so yet again people who are serious about their posts are getting the middle finger because they want a little more time to perfect their posts all because yet again those so called shit posters who feel the need to make 500+ posts a month. Don't get this the wrong way but english is not my first language grammar mistakes happen, you may not believe me but some of my posts take me half an hour or more, the least i could get is half an hour the time to edit any mistakes i made along the way. I could start posting in dutch, french or japanese if you want, maybe then somebody will realise how hard it is to speak/write in multiple languages without making spelling errors.
  3. Would it be possible to extend the time you can edit your posts for a little longer, i think it's 15 minutes now if my memory doesen't fail me it's kind on the short side especially if you're post are on the longer side? I'm always too late whenever i feel like i should have added something in or i see a big grammer error, could have phrased something better.
  4. I've already explained my feelings on trophies and achievements on the first page. So no need to repeat that at all. I do gotta admit when i reached 100k gamerscore a couple of years ago it felt, how stupid it may sound like an accomplishment and that i reached something as a gamer Lol. These days i just see it as a number that goes up and you know when people talk to me about it, i try to avoid it as much as possible because it's sounds like i don't have a life and have nothing better to do then playing videogames in my spare time. Sony's trophy system i never really cared much about i think i've got maybe a little over 15 platinum trophies which isen't a whole lot. Most of them are sony first party titles like horizon zero dawn, until dawn and ghost of tsushima and those aren't exactly the most difficult platinums to get.
  5. These days I'm going to say none at all, i'll always try to do things by the book well if it's possible since games are already easy enough. I do however remember i few things here and there i've done in the past like with Mario kart 64 on Rainbow Road, if done correctly you could make a jump where you could do a shortcut where you cut off a third off the track, it was always funny to use this trick on the last lap when playing with some friends back in the day whenever you were a long way behind only to end up finishing first, only once you knew the trick everybody could do it. With kingdom come deliverance if you wanted to level up your bow skill fast, when being out of sight you could just shoot cows, move time forward and the cows would respawn, rinse and repeat and you were master marksman in just a few hours of time and that comes really handy in the game. Skyrim was full of exploits that it's damn near impossible like where do you even start with this one. Any skill could be pretty much exploited, one i remember doing was turning the difficulty on the highest setting, pick a cow and use a weapon of preference, heal it with the healing skill when it's health was low rinse and repeat boom 2 skills maxed out in a just a few hours. Offcourse not sure of it's a bug or intential but the good old jump and kick to defeat Goro in the earlier Mortal Kombat games is probably the most famous one well for me atleast because on higher difficulties it was damn near impossible to defeat him the legit way. Also nobody seems to bring this up but in many open world games, you can easily shake off the cops if you change from a car to a boat. Especially Watch dogs is known for having this issue.
  6. Can we please stick to the topic for once this thread is about indie games, the games you list above aren't really indie games now are they or maybe we live in a different world and i'm missing something i don't know, just open up new thread if you want to talk about your backlog or use the search function i'm sure there is one around. Thanks in advance for your cooperation
  7. Hades keeps popping up in these lists i really should make work of a picking up a physical copy, i keep forgetting about. You know were do you draw a line between indie game and regulair release, there are a ton of smaller "indie" releases that get a worldwide retail release that end up selling extremly both physical and digital, do you still consider those indie releases despite there success? Take the duo Unravel games or A way out for example those got published by Ea can they still by considered indie games? Technically minecraft is still an indie release despite it being the best selling game of all time according to the internet. Despite all this i'm kinda curious where you guys/gals would drawn the line between indie and regulair game, if you feel like responding please do. Obviously of the ones i consider indie games my favourite would obviously be Stardew valley but here are 3 others i feel like may be worth your time, all games got physical retail releases if you're interested in that and i'm fairly certain you can pick them up for cheap both digital and physical : My Time at Portia -> Nevermind what the critics say this is the next best thing after stardew valley, instead of farming you are a builder and over the course of the game you help out getting the town bigger and expanding the map. It has many likeable characters, their is a ton to do in the game well the obvious stuff you do in life simulation game. It has a surpising large map for this kind off game and you know it's a game you can easily put over 150 hours into and not even get close to the ending. Ken Follett's The pillars of the earth -> I never see this one being brought up like ever it's based on a novel and no i haven't read it so can't say much about it, don't even know if you can classify it as an indie game but what the heck. It's a heavy story driven game were you start out playing as a young boy jack, a monk called phillip, and a girl who was the daughter of a lord but got stripped of all her wealth. It takes place in the 12th century in a little english village, i won't spoil the story but the really cool thing about this game it takes place a period of 30 years and you gradually see the characters maturing or aging, it's full of conspiracies and twists. The game itself has beautiful handdrawn graphics and the game itself is a mix between a visual novel and point and click game. I highly recommend giving this one a try, the voice acting may be a little off but if you enjoy a deep story with likeable characters check it out. 11-11 Memories Retold -> Again is it an indie game as it's published by Bandai Namco. Yet again another heavy driven story game that goes deep trough your soul and you know it made me look different at war. You play as german soldier Kurt who's son is missing in action and Canadian soldier Harry who wants to impress his girlfriend by fighting in europe both at the near the end of world war 1. But my god while there isen't a whole lot gameplay wise, story wise this is an emotional rollercoaster that sort off makes you have a different outlook at war at both sides of world war 1. I would have liked to include Disco Elysium - The Final Cut as it stands now it's one of the best games i have played in recent years but i have yet to finish the game and it would be unfair to include something i haven't finished yet. Here i was trying to keep it brief ohwell thanks if you read it all the way trough.
  8. It's still useless because digital games are tied to your online account, unless you would be okay to have a complete stranger have access to your online account they can't do jack shit with the digital games installed on a console. Hmm unless you use it as frisbee or simulair actions and use your disc the normal way like a normal human being, it's damn near impossible to scratch up a blu-ray disc. Also i never understood how people can be so careless with their belongings like how can a disc be scratched up so badly while all you have to do is keep it inside the case and it's will be fine for years to come.
  9. Just finished Life is strange true colors, great game only a little on the short side. Like with any life is strange come i have more questions then answers but what the hell. Don't know if i'll get to any more gaming today as i've still got some shit to do around the house, i may actually install the next gen version of gta 5 i picked up last week in the maintime, kind of want to play trough the story again.
  10. @Shaggeryou may be beating a dead horse but I'm glad this is being brought back up because if i'm being honest i was about ready to call it a day and log out and i don't know if/when i would come back. Being chosen member of the month of may 2022 made me stick around and the fact i've been nominated 3 times in the last 4 months made me feel like people appreciate me here for who i am and what i stand for and offcourse There are some genuinely awesome people here including yourself offcourse that i love to have a juicy discussion with because that is what a messageboard is for imo. But the past few weeks it's damn near impossible to keep up with board to read everithing and let alone reply to something that interest me, it's kind of discouraging whenever i see the latest posts of the general gaming section are made by one person. I don't know if a chat function will change anything about this behaviour because we already have the general chat section for that but who am i to talk. A max post amount a day would be better imo but like i said who am i to judge.
  11. You can still play and install regulair xbox one games on an external harddrive and play them like before but with Series x games or games that have been upgraded for series x those have to be installed internal or you can always buy an official ssd expansion that you can easily plug into the back, but you know it's like 219,99$ for 1tb one on amazon, 2tb costs like 399,99$ that's a lot of money for an expansion if you ask me and for just a 100$ more you can buy another series x or a ps5 well that is if you can find them trough regulair retail sellers.
  12. I try to keep my installed games on a harddrive as long as possible, digital only games i never delete because you never know they might dissappear in the store and may be gone forever due to various reasons. One thing i don't like about the series x, you can't install series x games on an external harddrive unlike the xbox one where you could just hook up 2 2tb external or whatever amount of data you needed and had all the space you needed to install games. I've looked into buying a 2tb ssd expansion but damn it costs almost as much as series x itself so i think i'm going to hold off on that one for now. Kinda hope they fix it that we can install series x games on a normal external harddrive, sure you could probably move series x games to an external harddrive and move them back to the internal harddrive whenever you want to play them but that is more of a hassle then anything else. I know it's due to keeping costs at a minimum but 1tb internal storage is just not enough for current gen consoles, especially when you factor in 100gb and up for games isen't uncommon these days.
  13. I've never done late shifts in my life so i woulden't have a clue how it is, i think it would be nicer to do then working nights coming home late and start gaming when everybody is asleep, but then again i'm so used to working in the night and sleeping during day time, it's always hard to adjust especially the first few days when i take 3 weeks off during the summer from work. I've also noticed with getting older i just need more sleep then when i was in my early 20 ies i slept for 4-5 hours a day and that was fine, nowadays i would feel like a wreck if i slept that little lol.
  14. It all comes down to the the condition and wheter it's boxed or not if you want a decent condition neo geo aes in the box you're definatly looking at something close to 700$ in price. Like hell i doubt if you're looking for a nice boxed neo geo cdz (the model of the neo geo cd you want to get ) you're not going to find one under 500$. When i collected for the neo geo cd it was already in the 400$ range for a nice one and that was 10 years orso ago, with the current prices on retro games i woulden't be suprised if it's going to cost more like 600-700$ for a nice condition boxed one.
  15. I've never answered in this thread but no i never game at night, i have to get up at 1.30 am, 6 days a week to make myself ready for work.
  16. My two cents for what it's worth, stop making these vague one sentence posts that make zero sense and start putting some tought into your posts by making your point clear so people know what you mean exactly if you don't like being quoted. I'll agree with what @Aniekwe said above, to me messageboards are intended for discussion, what are you even doing here if you don't want to have a discussion with other like minded people. And no this is not generic reply, mearly some good advice either you can take it or leave it.
  17. He probably had zero clue what he was talking about but justin11 is right. The purple discs that a lot of the earlier ps2 games came on were cd-roms, sony ditched the format for the dvd rom format pretty early on as a couple of models have problems reading the purple discs so that may be the reason, from experience whenever i booted up a purple disc my ps2 would make a lot of noise, i've heard some slim models don't read them at all. Their was an official hard drive released for the ps2 , i have one somewhere but never used it so i can't really say much about it. Then their is also this funky ps2/digital recorder hybrid with a 250gb hdd called the Psx only released in japan. Quite an interesting piece of playstation history if you ask me. The only problem is finding a working one is a challenge these days. But damn to stay on topic how long can you get a thread going about cleaning your consoles it's already at 9 fucking pages. Guess i'll just say how i do it then, the consoles i have hooked up i dust off once a week and that is more then enough imo, all my retro games are either in special box protectors or resealable dvd/blu-ray baggies to prevent wear and tear plus they are so much easier to dust off. All my consoles i don't use are in their original boxes, stashed away in various closets away mostly.
  18. I diden't watch the whole thing but great show nonetheless maybe the best xbox showcase in years what makes me most exited is that microsoft finally starts taking single player games serious again.
  19. Great thread when i first tought about it hell i'll just grab my rarest game or console while i probably don't want to fork out the money to buy them again they can be replaced if i wanted. Obviously i should go for something i can't replace, I always tought it was ugly as fuck but i've come to appreciate it more and more over the years this print used to belong to one of my best childhood friends who passed away from leukemia, i think it's been 9 years now. He used to be really into Pushead artwork and this print was one of his prized possesions, two weeks before he passed away he gave me this to remember him by, the cool thing about it that i never knew that he hid a farewell letter inside the back of the frame where he thanked me for being such a good friend and whatnot, i only found out about the letter a couple of years ago. Anyway sorry if it's nsfw, you know you should be working instead of browsing the internet.
  20. It always amazes me that for such a niche console snk managed to released 3 different console versions of the neo geo cd. I've got a complete japanese neo geo cd (and pocket) set that i completed years ago, it's a good alternative to collect for since neo geo aes was a little too expensive for my taste and needless to say with all the fakes and converts around, spending over a grand or more on a game wheter or not knowing it's original is not fun to me. I haven't really followed prices for the neo geo cd tough, since with the crazy prices for retro games i can imagine some games have gone up quite in price over the years.
  21. I was going to ask sooner or later if you did something in writing, because damn your writing is fantastic just based on your posts alone. Bet you can write about something completly boring and make it an interest read. Also diden't want to insult so called paid or pro reviewers, i mean it's their job to inform wheter a game is good or not not mine. Giving deadlines and most likely having to rush trough a game for the sake of reviewing and then writing a review that is 2 pages long for let's say a 50 hour game it's not something everybody can do atleast i coulden't do that. Like with anything in life some journalist or better in their craft then other journalist. Now that i know you're a journalist if you don't mind asking me a few questions : One thing i always wondered woulden't it be better for reviewers/websites to just drop the overall scores they give to a game. What's the difference between a 76 or 80 anyway. You could absolutly hate the game you are reviewing but overall the game is good what score do you give, how do you go about it. Like say you have to review a sports game and you don't give a crap about sports in general how do you go about, do you put your principles aside and review the game like it is or just give it bad review. Let's say you have to write an article about the fallout series and you have two pages to do it. What would you include to make it an interesting read? My taste in video game books is probably different then yours, where mine is more video game collector based and from what i gathered you are more into the industry in itself but do correct me if i'm wrong. Usually a lot of collector based books are headed by a games journalist and start out as their own fan project so it's all the same anyway. I have the crpg book from what i remember it's just review after review with a few pictures of the games, i tought it was decent and it's well put together but as you stated it's not a must own, it's great as an introduction to the genre though. I'll take you up on Jason Schrier's Blood, Sweat and Pixels it's only a little over 15 euros so i'll go and grab it now. If you have other video game book recommendations i'd love to hear as it never hurts to learn a thing or two about the industry.
  22. I feel like to be a videogame journalist you atleast have to have some passion for gaming, because if you don't then what the fuck are you doing writing about something you have zero interest in. The thing people always overlook is that a lot of smaller videogame websites are run by people who are passionate about video games and just want to write about it, they aren't in it for the money, most websites are already happy they got review codes from companies and that's that and you know i trust those people their oppinions more then the so called "pro reviewer". I've written articles for various websites over the years, sure most were collector based and whatnot but i had a lot of fun creating these articles. Hell i even had some of my articles published in retrogamer magazine over the years. Mostly their minority report which was about japanese obscure games because that's what i'm all about for the most part. I never got a dime for any of it and you know there are a lot of simulair people like me who just want to write about their favourite videogames and don't care about money at all. This leads me to the next thing when i buy a video game book, you can clearly tell if it's written by a journalist or if it's a fan project, because the fan project is a project of many years and put together with love and care while the former is just written rushed most of the times because of deadlines they have to meet.
  23. An underrated game to me is a game that was well received by "critics" at it's time of release but sold poorly and has gathered a cult following over the years. A perfect example of this would Beyond good and evil, a game that has received a cult status over the years. I think It's too early to call a game that is barely over a year old an underrated game, but i'll agree with that it's quite likely a game like ghostrunner will gather a cult following in years to come. I've yet to buy it but i will pick up a copy as soon as i find a physical copy of it, you know i may just do that right now. Also when I read @Withywarlock exellent criteria for an underrated game a more recent example would be mad max the videogame, it got mixed reviews but everybody who played the game doesen't have a bad word to say about the game. Which would be my top pick for underrated game of the eight generation of consoles.
  24. i'll just list some recent ones i can think of : Project Cars 3 -> Went from a semi sim racing game to a more arcade style racing game. Yakuza like a dragon -> Went to full turn based rpg route instead of the usual beat em up style gameplay. Witcher series -> Went full open world with the third installement instead of the more semi linear style from the previous 2 entries. Assasins creed Odyssey/origins/valhalla -> Went from a "stealth" experience to a full blown action rpg. Grand theft auto 3 -> Ditched the top down view of the first 2 games and it's spin off for an full 3d open world Fallout series -> Went from top down turn based rpg to 3d first person rpg Zelda series -> Name whatever game you want here, especially the first and second game are a good example how different they are Starfox Adventures -> Pretty much had nothing to do with the on rail shooter that was the first game. Resident Evil -> Where do you even begin with this one, after the third game each game feels like it could be a new ip. Banjo and Kazooie nuts and bolds -> I like this game but it's a car creation game instead of a platformer. Metroid Prime -> yeah this needs not explination I'm sure i could list atleast 15 more but i'll leave that up to others. There's a ton of obscure franchises i can think off like front mission went from tactical strategy rpg to a full blown action game with mixed results.
  25. I probably should go on a rant about companies not giving a fuck about preserving games but eh i'm not going to bother, clearly nobody cares about that anymore. In a nutshell That's Modern gaming for you were games are nothing more then consumables.
