  1. I’ve noticed that when people discuss “immersion,” they are not always referring to the same thing. Usually, when I use this word, I mean “feeling like I am present in the game universe, like I am actually there.” But sometimes I see people use it to mean “emotionally invested in the game universe.” When people don’t realize they are using the same word with totally different meanings, confusion and miscommunication can ensue. When you use the term “immersion,” what is its definition for you?

    Video Ad on VGR Forum

I am running a video ad on VGR Forum for the next 2-3 days. I know it's a bit annoying but it helps pay the bill and it is at least video gaming related. Thanks for understanding and thanks for helping make VGR the best gaming community on the net! 🙂

    Will Be Gone

I don't know if it matters, or if anyone cares, but starting this Friday (10-8-21) I will be gone for several days. We're flying out to Indiana to buy my dream car, and then driving back. We'll be stopping at hotels on the way, So we may not be back until Monday (10-11-21). Hopefully we'll be back sooner, But there's always the chance that we won't be back before the work week starts. We're not going to push ourselves, because I'm not taking the chance of hurting my car. If I get drowsy, we're stopping. And with this car, no one drives it but me. It's my baby, and I'm taking care of it as if it were a human child. I don't know if I've posted a pic of it yet, but either way here she is. 1987 Chevy Camaro Iroc-Z T-top

  4. For it's simply how much any media product, wether it be a game, movie, book or whatever, sucks you in. It's not something I feel I can define with a set of specifications. Sometimes I will get immersed in something and sometimes I won't, even if it's something very similar. Hell sometimes this happens to me when it is litteraly the same thing. On my first attempt to watch Stranger Things on Netflix I didn't get into it at all but on my second attempt a few months later I binged it and was totally addicted.

  5. I think emotional investment is related to the story and characters, and its possible in non-immersive games as well. For me immersion means given the situation and the established lore of the game, things play out in a way that is within the realm of what I consider possible. And the actions you take in the game give the expected results and consequences. Games where outlandish and wildly unrealistic things happen are not immersive. Anything that fundamentally defies the rules of reason, logic, and realism, hurt immersion. My goto example of how you can as a game developer hurt immersion terribly is max payne 3. Where they made every hit you suffer from enemy fire appear as a bullet hole on your character's body. This kills immersion completely. Because a human cannot survive dozens of bullets let alone move like nothing has happened. No, what they should've done instead is not show bullet holes at all. Then I can make believe in my head that the character is so awesome and lucky that hardly any bullets touch him, thus keeping my immersion intact. But if you are going to show dozens of bulletholes on the character that will kill my immersion in an instant. Hypothetically if you happened to play as a terminator in the game, then the bullet holes would be perfectly fine and increase immersion, not hurt it.

  6. The Surge is another great game that I played both on my PC and PS4 console. It came with more like the battle system of Dark Souls.

  8. Gaming is the biggest entertainment industry now, so it is logical that they want a foothold in it. That said I've never heard of this developer or any of their games, I hope they aren't focusing on mobile games.

  11. I've gone through that and keep on deleting a game, only to have to delete another. Soon I'll only be down to 10 games and no more space. I'm not deleting any more games just because of updates. Updates can kiss a hairy dogs ass

  12. Netflix simply wants to keep on their dominance as the best online streaming platform. Seeing them acquiring the rights of Night tale shows how visionary they are.

  14. I draw a blank every time I need to name a character. I can't think of a name if my life depended on it. So I usually just end up naming the character something stupid or a name I heard recently.

  15. Even 2021 is ridiculous, if we assume that the riumours that it entered pre production this year are true them were talking 2024 or 2025.

  16. Never believe anything said about GTA6 unless it's straight from Rockstar. The sentence "I have inside information on GTA6" translates as "I'm a bored nerd, desperate for attention and with nothing better to do than mess with the desperate fans Rockstar has, but doesn't deserve, on the internet." Besides, the game is not worth getting that existed about anyway because this isn't the glorious, PS2 era, self controlled Rockstar, this is the GTA5 milking, microtransaction loving, Take-Two fuck you version of Rockstar.
