  1. Don't know why i never followed up to this but better later then never. I've been messing around a bit with a few free to play games in the app store on my dad his old ipad to get a better idea of free to play games. Well needless to say it wasn't the greatest experience i've had, one game blocked me entirely after about 10 minutes because my daily time playtime was up and wanted 4,99 to continue, eh fuck it deleted. So i tried a random rpg who's name i forgotten already and low and behold i immediately was welcomed with a screen to buy their shit, i played it for about half an hour and yeah while the game was not that half bad i'd much rather prefer they charged money for it and be done with it instead of reminding me after every battle i can have a better experience for only 9,99. Yeah no I'm not gonna fall for this shit. The problem there is with these "games" they will be gone in a few years time and you mostlikely will not have the option to continue playing said game because correct me if i'm wrong most woulden't function anymore without an internet connection. If you have spend money on them it's gone, if you happen to feel nostalgic and want to play that free to play game you loved 10 years ago, you probably can't. You could say the same with multiplayer games, once the servers are gone the game is gone. Remember MAG on the ps3 yeah me neither but it is one of many games that is lost in time and 99,9% Of those free to play games will end up with the same fate, so my conclusion it's not wise to spend money on free to play games, you're better off buying a gift for your mother ( it's mothers day next week )or spend it on a real game. To conclude if you make it this far is why i feel like games are becoming more and more consumables, products of their time, with zero intention of being preserved for the future and to me it feels like nobody gives a fuck about that. Music and movies are preserved fairly well, why not videogames even if they are free to play. Damn kind of went on a rant but feels good to spit it out nonetheless.

  2. My nomination is for somebody who I think has criminally overlooked, that being @Yaramaki. Quality, well thought out posts, active and helpful person. His posts are truly worth reading every time.

  3. What are some games that seem to have a light tone on the surface, but underneath are quite dark? The Outer Worlds, for instance, is humorous and fun, but it is also incredibly bleak. And the longer you explore the world, the more horrifying you realize the situation is.

    Sonic Spinball

It's one of my least favourite games to play that I desperately want to get into, likely due to the kickass music.

    The Elder Scrolls 6

Given the lore and how the Dragons were presented in Skyrim I wouldn't make a lot of sense to make them a main feature again. I could see there being some fights or maybe even some Dragon NPC's in Elder Scrolls 6 but they won't be the focus.

  9. It's not always that simple. Sometimes rebalancing a game's difficulty is just a case adjusting health and damage. There are times when that's not enough. It might mean adjusting the balance of in game items like health potions or even making changes to enemy AI. This is another argument that defenders of the "Git Gud" mob like to make. They say that including other difficulty modes would "take development time away from the game". What a shame it would be to take another 2 or 3 months (probably less) to do the rebalancing for an easy mode so you can sell the game to a wider audience which would make up the additional cost and generate more profit.... Yeah, can someone explain to me why they don't do that again? Wether you look at it from a business or gameplay standpoint it's still totally brainless. There are tons of developers that find the time to do the extra work even when it does take diving deep into the games code and put out critical and commercial successes. This is laziness that these fans inexplicably just let them get away with.

  13. Wow, she's in for one hell of a ride around all those games. As long as she's a fan of video games, she will have a good time.

  14. These simulator games never appealed to me because they all have the same problem. I've talked very recently about how video games should be considered as entertainment media and should be allowed to offer the same varied experiences to all sorts of people, but the interactive nature of the platform dose make them different. Rather than being a pure observer, a video game (or at least any good video game) grants you the chance to fantasize at being someone else, more specifically the very someone else in that game's story or situation. I call it the empowerment factor. If a game fails to do that, then it fails full stop. Now, a game does not have to be a based on a fantasy to make this work. Who doesn't dream of being the F1 World Champion, winning the Superbowl, being the main event at Wrestlemania or winning the Champions League? Even though those things are real, they are still the dreams and fantasies of millions, if not billions of people. That is the base appeal of simulation games. To be someone or achieve something that you won't in real life. This is fairly straightforward in the aforementioned sport simulation games or fantasy based games, but it's much harder to do this when they simulate a job. You know, the kind of job people do because they get paid for it! Who would then pay money to do that very thing? Even if it is the kind of job a kid dreams of being like a policeman, firefighter or even a pilot, the reality rarely lives up to the fantasy, if ever. So game developers can do one of two things. Lean towards the fantasy within the real life occupation, or focus on making it as real as possible, a true simulation. You can't please both crowds. So I don't see the point in these sim games. To work as a video game, they can either deliver a boring, disappointing dose of reality, or an unrealistic fantasy that would be called called out immediately by the hardcore crowd. Maybe there is an appeal to them that I just don't get, but I can't think of any reason why they could really have mass appeal.

  17. If truly what you've said about Elon musk, criticizing the liberals is true, then I'll say it is ridiculous. No one has the right to tag people 'radical far left' that's considered as abuse. I really don't know his intentions for engaging in such. I just hope he doesn't mismanage Twitter as the current owner, which might lead to max Exodus in the social media platform if things aren't put in order. Maybe Elon musk will unban Donald Trump, that's their business I don't care. Our president Buhari made us suffer for months due to his selfish interest by using violating sentences during a post. I can't really remember it, I could've searched for it and tagged it here, but since you can Google anything, you can find it there. So, he was banned including his cabinets that got involved in the altercation. Because he is the president of federal republic of Nigeria, it affected everyone access to Twitter. His selfish interest made Twitter to shut down everyone coming from Nigeria performing activities on their platform. Such led me, using a VPN which I never liked when it comes to accessing internet. And it was just frustrating for me back then. Twitter should have banned our president and not closing Nigerian IPs from accessing it's social platform earlier on. I felt happy again when it reopened for us.

  19. The first multiplayer game I played was Club Penguin and I loved it as a kid. I was so interested in it that I really wanted to create a game like that so I was experimenting with different options. It never worked out of course but I did make a little practice game on Scratch.

  20. It's not just the PS5 controller that's way better than PS4's but the entire console on its own is a beast compared to PS4. Even the FPS makes it way better.

  21. I don't care what those selfish and elitist fans of the "Soulsbourne" genre think. Their is absolutely no good reason to not have difficulty options in a single player action game. You want a challenge, great more power to you but some might want a different experience. They want to explore, check out the lore or experience a story without the gameplay being so strenuous. They constantly argue somebody playing the game a different way would ruin the experience for them. To that I say, GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR FUCKING ARSE! That makes no fucking sense! I like a challenge, I genuinely do but if someone else wants to play on an easier mode I don't care! It doesn't affect my playthrough!

  22. I couldn't agree with @NightmareFarm more. With the expectation of some games like interactive narratives (Life Is Strange and Telltale Games), platformers (difficulty options can be hard to implement is these types of games as the way game controllers and shape of the environment directly affects the gameplay), games for very young children and multiplayer focused titles like MMO's. Other than that, there is no excuse. However, for single player experiences, there is no reason for a game to have one difficulty setting, especially if that one setting is really hard or really easy. Having multiple options doesn't take away a challenge, on the contrary it may even add to it. For someone who wants a challenging game, you can turn it up, the challenge has not been lost. For everybody else who may be impaired or be more interseted in art style, storytelling and exploration, the game opens up for them. And even better, it forces developers to so those other elements making a game more interesting, immersive and just generally better. The Souls game have other problems that I won't go into (like not even allowing a player to pause), but compare something like a Souls game to Horizon Zero Dawn with it's Ultra Hard mode, HZD is better. Better story, better graphics, better world building and exploration and better, more rewarding combat, all in a game that is at least a challenging as Soul's games tend to be. It has those advantages because the game had to work at lower difficulty settings as well harder ones. Having multiple difficulty options makes a game better, simple as that. Besides, when was the last time you saw somebody gush about the story, graphics or anything besides the difficulty in a Souls game? Nobody cares about it because it's possible to have a conversation without talking about one thing, the difficulty. It's a shame as I'm sure there are souls games that have a lot going for them other than just the difficulty. I see what you say @kingpotato, but I disagree. A game being challenging can make it more tense, but that doesn't justify having one difficulty setting. Tension and that daunted feeling can also be created (And I would argue is better being created) by the atmosphere the game itself. Once you faced and been killed by the same, cheap boss 15 times, that feeling tension disappears replaced by frustration, so it's the wrong way to do it. That kind of tension doesn't last. It's just as bad if the boss end up being to easy, that's why being able to adjust it is a good thing. There is something else about this, the worst thing of all actually. Now let me make this clear, I understand that this isn't strictly the game's fault and I'm not painting every Souls fan or people who do believe that games should only have one, brutally hard setting with the same brush, but the toxicity and generally bad attitude that comes from this sector of the gaming community can't be denied. They have have earned this unfortunate reputation for a reason and that reason ties very closely with these games difficulty and lack of difficulty options. It does breed arrogance and a condescending, superior attitude that I absolutely cannot stand. Accessibility options and difficulty options make games better for everybody, especially those who play for the challenge.

  23. I'm still playing PS4 games on it personally, but @Rain Dew is playing a lot of PS5 games, and she absolutely loves it. However, one thing about the controller did stick out to me personally. For years we were all saying the PS4 controller was the most comfortable controller ever made. The PS5 controller straight up beats the PS4 controller in comfort. It goes into your hand perfectly. I don't think it can ever be beaten.

    Do you play IO games?

The first one I ever played was Agar.io and it was quite funny. I've tried a few of the other .io games but never really played them a lot. It's fun for a few minutes but eventually it just gets boring. It's like this - https://agar.io/ Basically games on websites that have a .io domain extension

You can always buy another TV set online either on Amazon or eBay 😂. But it's good you kept the old system, it's something that will always give you a connection to old memories. Did you manage to play Driver then with your brother?

    Burnout

I haven't played a burnout game in years so there's not much i can add that isen't already said, i did enjoy burnout paradise when it first came out unlike some of you. I bought the remake for cheap a few years ago but never really got around playing that version, doubt i'll get around to it anytime soon. Since my favourite in the series hasen't been mentioned yet i'll do the honours and say that burnout legends on the psp is the best in the franchise, if you have a psp laying around you owe it to yourself to buy a copy and play it as It's pretty much a best off from the first 3 games crammed into one game.

  29. As the OP I feel I need to step in. The same points are getting repeated and were starting to drift a little off topic. This is about Sony's current and potential future acquisitions. I'm not saying the latest points about monopolisation and competition are totally off the rails but the points have been made several times. I would appreciate it if future posts could contribute with a new point or at a new perspective of current points.

  31. Back in the 90's, Tournament Fighters existed that took refence from all sorts of things. There were the same, really, just clones of Street Fighter 2 Turbo with the skins of other licenced characters, but that also made a lot of them half decent. Now that I think of it, it's kind of a shame that doesn't really happen anymore.

  34. Did you play The Forsworn Conspiracy quest yet? That convinced me to take their side, which was reinforced when I read The Bear of Markarth (which also shed a lot of light on Ulfric). Plus, there is the fact that the spriggans are hostile to all but them. Seems to me that nature’s vote is cast for them as well. Their permanent aggro thing drives me nuts. I see it as an artifact of the fact that the devs must’ve thought, “Let’s put something other than regular bandits here. We’ll just have angry natives instead!” Total agreement on their fashion sense. I’ve read that technically, it is (or was, in some era) usually accepted military custom that if you wear the uniform of a particular army and act in its name, you are considered a member by foreign powers. So I dress like a Forsworn and do all in their name =D @LadyDay

    Burnout

I'm sorry you had to miss out on when the franchise (and I think by extension the whole genre) was at it's best. Don't get me wrong there has been evolution in sim racing with the GT Series and licenced products like F1 and WRC. Open world racing games have gotten a lot better too with titles like Forza Horizon. Unfortunately the drifting, nitro boosting, vehicle smashing, fuck realism, balls to the wall arcade racers that I used to love like Burnout 3 are all but destroyed. Thanks largely to EA and Burnout Paradise.
