  1. The video game awards will be back this December, is anyone excited? I'm more interested in the reveals more than anything, but they will be adding one new category. That new category being best adaptation, as in video games turned into movies, tv shows, comic books and other such media. So you probably won't see the likes of The Last Of Us make the list, but I'm sure they will include the Halo show, that Resident Evil show and I imagine there are a few other game adaptations I'm forgetting. Anyway, feel free to discuss what games you think will also make the Game Awards this year. https://www.ign.com/articles/the-game-awards-returns-in-december-with-a-new-category?utm_campaign=trueAnthem%3A Trending Content&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwAR2m5-9UI_yYzXZZyrHagCYvSDPw72xVk0kngiZAT4HNrUsHweM7QVLMY0Y

We appreciate you putting up these Gamescom trailers @Kane99, but for convivence sake and to avoid clutter, I'm going to merge these topics into the Pinned Gamescom 2022 Thread under the Gaming Forum.

  3. That thing is going to carry a million dollar price tag. The only ones that could afford to own one would be Elon Musk, Mark Zetterburg, and Bill Gates. From the looks of it, it's also not street legal. As low as that thing is, the driver better pray they don't encounter a speed bump. Ridiculous as hell, if you ask me.

  5. It's taken like almost forever for Woods to get back into this which it's taken them almost 10 years to do that. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one and hopefully it's going to exactly what we golf lovers look out for in games. As for microtransactions ; they can't leave it out. The question would be how much would they dump in it?

  7. Great topic, Honestly as someone who played video games / ran services for for multiple years in my life it gives me great pleasure to elaborate on this. Pro's: Faster reaction time, logic an analytical reasoning tend to increase, pattern recognition improves, ability to plan and acclimate do as well. Being your own boss in most situations and having the schedule you want unless you need to be online during specific timezones, and decent income if you're in the right sector within the industry. Con's: Loneliness, Increased issues with back , wrist, neck, in general skeletal and muscle pains. Disorientation , detachment from reality , bad to poor diets if you must be online constantly, lack of social life, dealing with constant trolls, and boredom. Personally I found ways to fix the diet issue, the back/ body problems and the trolls. However even now my primary job is to create and develop communities and video games. It's different than when I was a service provider , pro gamer, community manager all at once but in general I still have disorientation, detachment from social life life or friendships and actually a more increased sense of what reality is which can become a problem due to the fact you analyze everything down to a logical / analytical standpoint which prevents you from really sympathizing with the few people you do have around you. Being a pro gamer/ someone who spends 16 hours a day creating digital content or managing within that environment shouldn't be for people who want to play for fun, have families that need attention or wish to have a circle of friends who require attention. After a while you stop viewing things as "fun" and see the price tags, ways to improve or perfect what you are after and gaming just doesn't have the same feel anymore. My favorite game was "Runescape" and "Path of Exile" however once I started my profession with services it all became pointless as I found the utmost efficient ways to complete the games and before I knew it the magic of the game was gone and it just became "being the best or completing situations the most efficient and quick way as possible" which was driven by the profitability of said changes. I suggest if anyone actually wants to profit from playing games they find a way to manage it properly and find a way to make your play style profitable without changing too much about what you enjoy to earn income. 8. Don't get me wrong, I want him to succeed here, I truly do, but I'm also a realist and thus I believe he is going to fall on his ass because I don't think he fully understands how this works. Whether Sony are right or wrong in this is irrelevant, what matters is that, as far as I can tell, how Sony charges commission is the basis for his whole argument and it doesn't make sense. Not only is that a weak argument to make on behalf of the consumer anyway, is it also pretty much the exact same thing that happens throughout the industry, so either everybody is guilty of this or nobody is. Even retailers selling physical copies of games charge commission, that's how they get a cut. This would make sense if he could prove that Sony was consistently charging more for thier games on PSN then on anywhere else. I decided to test this by looking at how a random game was priced across the board and after just that on game this this theory is already looking shaky. The game I choose was Stray. Here is how much Stray costs on the British PSN Store right now. This is for the PS4 and PS5 version And on Steam... OK, it's £1 less. And I'll say, I don't think Sony can justify that. They probably would have some sort of bullshit excuse lined up, but it's starting to look like Alex Neill has a case, until you take a look at GAME, the high street retailer that operates in the UK. That's important because that is where this law suit is being filed. (BTW, I have no idea why GAME is still listing this as a pre-order when the game is already out, but I promise you this fresh is a screen snip I just took for this very post.) How on earth is Alex going to prove Sony are ripping people off when the country's most prominant video game retailer is charging a full £10 more for the same game? You see, he has not thought this through.

  9. What about arthritis and overall bone/joint/muscle discomfort? This seems possible especially if one has poor posture and an inadequate gaming set-up and chair agronomics. Furthermore, looking at a monitor for long periods of time can cause eyestrain and weakened eyesight.

  10. Could the Mutant Two headed Cow be a disrespect to Indian Religion? There's a possibility in that and that's the only reason why I would sympathise with Indian government and the people for having their religion disrespected. But outside Indian, it doesn't disrespect any religion. Then, I'm all in support for Belgium banned the game Mario Kart Tour in their country because of seeing loothboxes as a means of gambling which is exactly what it is.

  11. We read a lot about the stresses that esports pros have to endure, which tend to result in a lot of them quitting while fairly young. Do we know much yet about the long-term physical and psychological outcomes? Do esports players have health problems after their careers are over like athletes often do?

  12. I had no idea there was even rumors of a Blade game being made by Ubisoft, but I guess that isn't happening. Ubisoft recently denied the rumors that they were making a Blade game. But now that we're talking about Blade, maybe there is a chance one day we'll see a Blade game. What studios do you think could make a Blade game? I know there was one for the PS1 that wasn't good by any means, but I could see a new Blade game doing pretty good. You can read the news here about this: https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/blade-marvel-game-rumor-ubisoft-response/

  14. I don't mean the "AI" we know now which is just a preset bot or CPU programmed with a set range of actions and responses. I mean AI that are able to think for themselves used for gaming purposes. AI being implemented in the future to enhance the gaming experience. By this I mean AI in place of preset NPCs, AI dialogue, AI cities, AI used to determine how NPCs fight you, AI being used to give games dozens of story paths which differ greatly depending on what you do. The possibilities are endless. I think this would really bring games to life and console makers and devs alike should invest in this.

Among their final wishes was that gamers be able to download Waves and Waves 2 for free from Steam. We are upset that Rob is no longer with us, but no one should miss this opportunity to experience their legacy.

According to this article: https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2022/08/22/star-wars-kotor-remake-developed-saber-interactive/?fbclid=IwAR2wNHC8xSSD5us_TkKkcWcxXuBhpvGspx-foZOcNTsAP0YLH504_0sZ5WA It is being said that Saber Interactive is now making the Star Wars KOTOR Remake. Aspyr media was making it with help from Saber, but now it looks like Saber will be taking the full brunt of it all themselves. Does this worry you at all? Or do you think Saber Interactive will a great job?

It's quite possible to discuss these individual games on the Gamescom thread as well. This just makes it easier for everyone to see what was revealed at Gamescom without having to move in and out of individual topics. If it's OK, I would to do my job and make a decision for the the forum without getting talked back if you don't mind. We can look at individual topics for these games as the release dates, new trailers and so on get revealed.

She can't do anything about her height, but even if she is a little overweight (which I can't see at all) he has no right to call her "dumpy". This asshole needs to be fired and blacklisted.

  21. I'm honestly not sure. I could see Ubisoft making a great Blade game, but maybe Eidos as they did the Guardians of the Galaxy game and they did a fairly decent job there. Insomniac games I think did the Spider-Man games, so I think they would do a Blade game justice. And it'll be tied into the Marvel side with either Eidos or Insomniac. That or Rocksteady, as they rocked it with the Arkham series over the years.

  22. SD cards aren't like thumb drives. They are faster, more reliable, and more durable in certain circumstances. Thumb drives will degrade over time, but I have never had that issue with an SD card. They have a MUCH longer lifespan to the point that they're almost immortal. You want to stay with SanDisk as they're the best on the market. Also, I would highly recommend in not getting one smaller than 256g. The 64g that you have will barely hold anything these days. Even a 128g doesn't hold much. I have a couple, but only use them for documents. In my Switch however, I have a 512g card. As soon as I have the money, I'll be upgrading it to a 1t card, or if I can spare the money, a 2t card. Currently, at BestBuy, a 1t card is $90 (€90.10 / £75.91) and a 2t card is $180 (€180.20 / £151.82) here in the states at least. I don't know where all everyone lives, but as the majority seem to either be from the states, or Europe (or more commonly from what I can see, the UK) I only included the Euro, and British pound.

  23. Yesterday I've already seen a few stores slashing the price down to 50 bucks already and that was before the game was even out, since it launches today. Woulden't be suprised if it goes down to 20-30 bucks within the next 2 months. Maybe at 20-25 i'll pick up a copy but as expected from violition they done and fucked it up (again). While i'm definalty going to play the game at some point, i kinda fear if sales are bad and they probably will be bad this is the nail in the coffin for the saints row franchise but you never know maybe thq nordic/deep silver will feel the need to remaster the first 2 games at some point in the future and milk the saints row ip completly dry and you know i would not be suprised if they did.

  27. Yeah I figure Covid is a big reason. Especially since I recently heard that gaming profits have gone down a bit since the lockdown lifted, which I could see in turn causing less people to stream game content. Anyway, I could see some people doing 24 hour streams. I think there are some people that do that. I don't think I could stream for that long ever.

    Amazon Prime Gaming

Yeah it's a nice added bonus for those who subscribe to Amazon Prime. Not only do they give you free games, dlc and other in game items, they also give you options in Twitch like a subscription you can use each month for any user you want to support. I used it for one of my friends a while back and he got a kick out of that.

  29. I'll use this video clip to show you what I mean. As the player in control of the protagonist interacts with an NPC (in this case Serana), you see various options appear to select as things to say. When you select them, the NPC responds with whatever dialogue they say in that moment. Those options you select are the protagonist's dialogue in the game. It's not voiced, but it is expressions, questions and instructions coming from the protagonist directed at the NPC. This is what I mean when I talk about a protagonist having dialogue, but not voiced. In a game where all the NPCs are voiced when the protagonist is not might sound like a weird or even bad idea, but it can work, especially in an RPG. This is what I was talking about earlier in the thread how reading the protagonist's dialogue and letting yourself hear the voice you want to hear say the words as apposed to a voice actor can actually enhance the role play experience, at least for me.

I don't understand the premise of the lawsuit. My understanding is that Sony's 30% commission is similar to that of Epic, Microsoft, Steam, and all of the other major players. Seems to be an industry standard?

  34. This is really it. There's very few esports players I've seen who are noticeably obese, likely because in order to have that sharper mind one can't rely solely on that Monster Energy sponsership. It requires plentiful exercise, good diet and remaining hydrated. Most sporting injuries come about in physically intensive activity, especially in contact sports. Esports players may be physically fit, but their training regimen isn't going to put them at long-term health risks like a rugby player might be, a game in which great body mass (and the issues that come with it) is required to play effectively. The only risks I can see are developing eye-strain for using a screen for so long, as well as repetitive strain injuries in the wrist onwards, but I reckon esports players are expected to take breaks between matches or tag each other out so they can take microbreaks. The UK's Health & Safety Executive page has some interesting ideas on what breaks should be taken and when in regards to visual display unit (VDU) work, and that could just as easily apply to games.

  38. It's a control issue. They want to maintain control in an infantile effort to protect their youth. US went through something similar in the 80s, but culturally we overcame the hysteria. It's the social community and commentary that they want to block. In China and Steam works fine, even without a VPN it seems. However, the workshop is not available unless they use VPN to access Steam.

  39. idk, I feel like stuff like Apex Legends does well even with EA being their publisher. The team behind Apex Legends seem to not be hated, and I don't usually hear much hate about Apex Legends. So there is hope for a live service game under EA, it just needs to be controlled by the developers and not EA. Because if EA forces their control onto it, it will become a waste. But I think the devs behind this game are being given the freedom to make the game they want, and I hope it works out to the fans benefit.
    1 point
  40. I feel like EA may be starting to let their devs do their thing. I at least hope that's the case. If EA actually allowed their devs to do their own thing, and take as much time as needed to finish a game, then I don't think EA would be this hated.
    1 point
  41. That is very likely to happen, especially with EA involved. But I do have some hopes that the team behind Skate are given the freedom to do what they want and not what EA tells them to do. Honestly, if it's like Fortnite for example, I'd have no issue with it, because in that regard, you can play the game all the way through without having to pay a single cent. But of course, if you want to get all of those unlocks for the season, you have to pay $10-$15 a season. The reason I can see it working, is because Fortnite changes every season, they always seem to do something new and fresh. If Skate can replicate that type of live service game, and make it work, I honestly think it would go over fine. But, maybe I'm too hopeful, because the track record with EA is hard to overlook. But, we'll see.

  42. It's not out yet, but sounds like 2023 will be the year we can play it. I'm excited to play it. Love service games get a lot of hate, and I understand why, but I feel if it's done right, it could work for both the devs and the fans. Just gotta make sure EA doesn't cause it to back to being greedy. Which is a real possibility.

  43. There's something that usually happens to me when playing video games and I have observed that it normally occurs whenever I play over 4 hours uninterrupted. I tend to go pitch black blank just like someone who's brains shutdown for a minute. I would stare at the gaming TV but wouldn't actually be seeing anything for about a minute before things gets back to normal. I have tried to ignore it but, it's been repeating constantly, so I decided not to play any game for more than 2 hours. I'm just trying to be careful and hoping it's nothing health related.
    1 point
  44. I second @Reality vs Adventure's suggestion of seeing your doctor and/or opticians immediately. I regret not seeing this post sooner because this isn't normal, and could be a sign of something very serious. Very recently I've had eyelid spasms, originally thinking it was my eyeballs themselves flickering out. I saw my optician and I'm thankful they said my eyes are perfectly healthy, but I don't want to take my chances. Anything I can do to limit screen time and bright lights I take without hesitation. ~ Hopefully I've just lost something in translation, and that by blackout it's like when I'm intuitively just flying through Spyro levels because I know them like the back of my hand without really any thought or care. Otherwise, don't risk it. Stay safe.

    Video Ad on VGR Forum

That's totally fair. And like you said, it is gaming related, so it's appropriate. There is one really annoying thing about it, though. If one closes down the pop-up without muting it first, the audio will keep playing until the add has finished it's play cycle in the background with no way to shut it off. I don't know if that's a fixable problem or not or if it's even worth fixing given the add will only run for a couple of days, I just wanted to point that out to everyone in case they do what I first did.

  48. I thought about this, and if the community wants it, I would create Sticky threads in the Video Game Deals sub-form with the purpose of keeping people up to date on what the latest games on offer through PS+, GWG and other such services are. It would be laborious and I'd think most people get that information in good time anyway, but if the community thinks this would be helpful, I'm all for helping out. It would also be a place to discuss what games you want to see, discuss rumours and post your thoughts on the games these services are currently offering. So tell me what you think. Do you think this is a useful idea or not and what services you want to see included if we go ahead with the idea.
